About The Position

Weyerhaeuser is seeking a Planning Forester to join their Southern Timberlands Business in the Coastal Piedmont Region. This full-time position focuses on harvest planning in the western Georgia/Florida area, ensuring alignment with silvicultural and harvest strategies. The role emphasizes safety, effective contractor management, and collaboration across various forestry functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Forestry or related field, or equivalent combination of work experience and education.
  • At least 2 years of related experience in forestry.
  • Basic negotiating and contract administration skills.
  • Strong understanding of forestry Best Management Practices (BMPs).
  • Familiarity with Forest Inventory/GIS systems.
  • Proficiency in computer software, particularly Excel.
  • Understanding of harvest supervision, silvicultural goals, and basic forest economics.
  • Knowledge of mobile applications related to forestry.
  • Commitment to established safety standards.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a willingness to collaborate in a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Adept at problem-solving and flexibility to take on additional projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with advanced forestry management software.
  • Knowledge of local environmental regulations and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop annual harvest plans that align with silvicultural and harvest strategies.
  • Champion safety and risk awareness in forestry operations.
  • Oversee tract preparation activities, including validating harvest candidates and creating prescriptions.
  • Address environmental concerns and mark stream boundaries during harvest planning.
  • Manage yearly contract budgets and foster communication between marketing, harvesting, and silviculture foresters.
  • Oversee the maintenance of existing forest roads to meet safety and environmental standards.
  • Effectively manage contractors to ensure successful operations.
