About The Position

The responsibilities of this position requires a background in waterfront repair and ships operations, as well as knowledge of industrial repair techniques. Candidate must possess the skill to work effectively with management and working levels of other divisions and departments and with Command leadership and Ships Force. Candidate must have basic knowledge of the various shop installations and manufacturing in the Los Angeles and Virginia Class platforms, as well as familiarity with NAVSEA approved manufacturing/repair procedures and trade applicable work practices. The responsibilities of the Shop Planner/Estimator shall be able to read and understand technical manuals, instructions, military specifications and standards, blue prints, computer aided drawings, work packages and be able to follow verbal direction. The Shop Planner/Estimator shall be qualified to the Shop Planner/Estimator requirements of the JFMM or equivalent. Work is at Groton SUBASE Work is supporting SUBASE weld shop

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of work experience related to Submarine maintenance, overhaul and repair.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable interacting with all levels of management including Ship's Force and NSSF Command leadership
  • Highly organized individual who can manage their own responsibilities
  • Computer skills using Microsoft Office

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with planning and/or weld shop
  • Experience with NSSF parts and material ordering systems
  • Experience with GCPCs and other Navy ordering methodologies
  • Prior JFMM experience

Responsibilities

  • Determine job material requirements, order material from within the Navy's supply system. Track material arrival against expected job start dates.
  • Review interpret and provide analysis of written procedures, specifications and technical guidance provided by NSSF planning or higher authority for controlled and non-controlled jobs.
  • Plan, estimate and ship check FMA level non-nuclear repair work and requisition material for Periodic Maintenance requirements (PMR), alternations, and selected jobs.
  • On a daily basis, ensure contract labor hours are reported accurately to the requirements of the WISP program.
