About The Position

The Maintenance Planner is responsible for developing, coordinating, and communicating the maintenance plan for all fixed and mobile equipment within the operational area, in alignment with South32 SAP Work Management processes. This role ensures that maintenance activities follow established company standards and industry best practices to support safety, asset reliability, and the achievement of production and business objectives.This role is based at the Hermosa Project site, near Patagonia, Arizona. Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Significant relevant work experience in maintenance planning, master data management, reliability engineering, or related fields may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Proficiency in work management systems (SAP or equivalent ERP software).
  • Strong analytical skills with data interpretation and asset strategy development.
  • Drive company vehicle and be covered under company insurance

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or bachelor's in mechanical/electrical/industrial engineering, Maintenance Management, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in heavy industry, mining, or manufacturing environments.
  • Certification in project management (PMP), asset management (ISO 55000), or maintenance planning.
  • Knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), preventive & predictive maintenance (PM/PdM), and industry best practices

Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with work‑management processes to support safe work practices, minimize risk exposure, and meet all statutory and regulatory obligations.
  • Identify material safety risks, verify that critical controls are implemented and effective, and demonstrate strong situational safety awareness.
  • Confirm that all deployed work adheres to legal requirements, safety standards, and established safe‑work procedures.
  • Facilitate the development of maintenance work scopes that are safe, environmentally responsible, and sufficiently detailed to support efficient and repeatable execution.
  • Create and plan work orders that enable effective deployment of personnel, service providers, equipment, and materials.
  • Build and communicate accurate work schedules that reflect all work‑management activities, properly resource requirements, and align with the 12‑week planning window.
  • Request and govern changes to work‑management master data based on equipment strategy reviews, failure analysis, and correction of data‑quality issues.
  • Develop secondary task lists for recurring work to support consistent planning and safe execution.
  • Review compliance with work‑management processes across all sub‑functions and engage stakeholders to address gaps or nonconformance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the asset‑management strategy.
  • Monitor and report on maintenance costs, budgets, and forecasting cycles to ensure accuracy and adherence to expectations.
  • Collaborate proactively with the production/operations teams to develop and maintain the Major Events Calendar.
  • Ensures sufficient time is spent observing, coaching, setting standards, and providing feedback to frontline employees and contractors to maintain consistency and quality control.
  • Acts as a change agent for new South32 and internal initiatives related to work management and continuous improvement.
  • Develops and mentors individual team members, promoting a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging participation and input during meetings and discussions.
