The City of Salina is seeking a motivated, forward-thinking planning professional to join our high-impact, mission-driven Community & Development Services Department. Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Kansas driver's license.
  • Planner I Required: Bachelor's degree in urban planning, geography, architecture, public administration or related field. Experience in community or urban/rural planning or three (3) years of planning experience.
  • Planner II Required: Master's degree in urban planning, geography, architecture, public administration, or related field. Experience in community or urban/rural planning or five (5) years of planning experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Planner I Preferred: Experience with current and/or long-range planning. Experience with boards & commissions. Experience with GIS. AICP candidate status.
  • Planner II Preferred: Experience with current and/or long-range planning. Experience with boards & commissions. Experience with GIS. AICP certification or AICP candidate status.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates & performs work in preparation & implementation of the City's community development plans.
  • Processes subdivision, annexation, & zoning requests including researching & analyzing applications for compliance & conformity with applicable rules & regulations.
  • Assists in the development & updating of codes & ordinances.
  • Confers with & advises officials & the public on technical aspects of zoning, planning, & supplies information to, & cooperates with, interested individuals & organizations.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports based upon careful research & study of planning & zoning problems, gathers, analyzes & presents data in the form of written, graphic, or oral reports for use before boards, advisory committees & public hearings.
  • Plans, coordinates, & participates in the preparation of community development plans, programs, & grant applications.
  • Plans & conducts public outreach & participation activities such as public meetings, outreach events, & presentations.
  • Assists with maintaining & updating flood plain maps & administration of flood plain policies.
  • Maintains & updates flood plain maps; administers flood plain policies.
  • Performs complex research & manages records for proposed projects & regulatory matters.
  • Writes & interprets technical reports & maintains a wide variety of records.
