This position will be responsible for determining what production material to buy based on the Engineering Bill of Material and production schedules provided by the various Electric Boat business systems. Area responsibilities are based on commodity groupings of parts that support EBs manufacturing and construction of submarines. The individual will be responsible to meet or exceed EB's strategic objectives for material availability, maximizing fill rates and minimizing obsolete inventory. The candidate is expected to determine the best strategy to manage individual parts in order to mitigate material shortages and replacement material. The position is located in Groton, CT, but supports all EB sites/off-site programs and a teaming (and subcontracting) relationship with the HII-NNS shipyard. Tasks include all material planning attributes for purchased or subcontract material, the analysis of material demands, material ordering, scheduling and budget management, managing company-owned inventory levels, reapplication of potential surplus material for all components and material, material shortage resolution and developing material forecasts to support demand for new construction and maintenance & modernization. Successful candidates will recognize the difference in commodities and end-uses and plan orders and deliveries accordingly with their buying counterpart. The candidate will regularly interface with Buyers, Engineering, Material Control/Warehousing, Detail Planning, Production Control Planning, Operations, and the Program Offices. The candidate will also have the responsibility to comply with internal and external regulatory requirements. This includes internal policies and procedures and DFARS MMAS standards. The individual will understand economic ordering concepts using time phased material demand, have strong research and analytical skills, have strong problem solving and decision making skills, and understand the financial analysis around material and ensuring costs stay aligned with the contracts that are authorized with material dollars.

  • Bachelor's degree & 2+ years of related experience in supply chain planning, planning within material demand, or financial analysis involving material cost.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or Economics and 0-2 years of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Communications, Marketing, or Economics.
  • Experience in Lean Six Sigma principles.
  • Experience with material and schedule forecasting.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
