About The Position

Weyerhaeuser Company is currently recruiting for a conscientious and detail-oriented team member to fill the role of Planer Set Up for our lumber manufacturing facility located in McComb, MS. This is a highly technical role requiring precision maintenance skills. Pay Rate is $24.69 Tasks performed involve work with equipment and material that require familiarity with formal safety procedures and the following of these procedures in order to maintain the safety of themselves and their coworkers Self-starter with the ability to work without direct supervision Set-up the Planer within exact alignment tolerances (to the thousandth) to maximize quality and production through the Planer Understands how to make adjustments to the Planer machine to improve quality and feeding Effectively troubleshoots quality and performance issues with the Planer machine Set cut dimensions for planer depending on the dimension lumber being ran Learn how to change head knives, top, bottom, and side Learn how to operate the Side Head grinder Communicate closely with Value Techs, Maintenance, Leadership, and upstream and downstream operators Learn how to feed rough, dry lumber into the Planer in an unbroken stream to keep lumber in the Planer at all times, while discarding bad boards Must assist in monitoring lumber feeding and assist as necessary Responsible for responding to quality requests made by the graders, adjusting planer and infeed speeds, adjust the machinery to maximize quality and production Turn lumber to ensure maximum grade recovery, searching for foreign objects embedded in the lumber, selecting and culling pieces that may jam the machine. Make minor repairs to the machinery and maintains equipment at high level, including but not limited to pre-shift inspections, blow downs, monitoring for plug ups, jointing knives as required and perform machine lubrication This opportunity is on Night Shift. There will be a 6 month probationary period before being permanently assigned to the role

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Must be familiar with hand tools and be able to use them to change knives, service the machine, change parts, etc
  • Must be able to understand and execute alignment principles
  • Must be able to use and understand calipers
  • Must be able to learn & understand basic computer operation
  • Must be willing to help train others
  • A sense of urgency in terms of maximizing production, and minimizing downtime is necessary in this type of manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work closely with supervisors and others; be a team player/leader; good communication skills, and demonstrate positive attitude
  • Maintain a clean work station, and exhibit good performance, safety and attendance records
  • Ability to interpret and apply verbal and/or written instructions
  • Willingness to work any shift, work overtime, and weekends and rotate between jobs as necessary

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience operating as Planer Set up preferred
  • Ability to do basic maintenance
  • Experience in a lumber mill is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Set-up the Planer within exact alignment tolerances (to the thousandth) to maximize quality and production through the Planer
