About The Position

We are looking for a Planer Setup Operator who has experience with setting up Planer machines. We operate a safe facility and consider safety our top priority, so we are looking for a professional whose values reflect our own. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, and technical certifications.
  • Must have at least 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 1-2 years' operating/setting up/maintaining a planer machine preferred.
  • An aptitude for learning mechanical skills. Mechanical aptitude test required.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with inspecting lumber to ensure quality standards preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and analyze equipment to eliminate downtime.
  • Experience with replacing, sharpening/joint knives.
  • Demonstrate basic computer skills and experience using a computer for recordkeeping and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the flow of material to and from the machine center and make adjustments as necessary to ensure production quality and quantity standards are met.
  • Conduct visual equipment inspections, perform basic preventive maintenance and assist maintenance and Planer Technician in troubleshooting/improving equipment.
  • Install knives using wrenches and gauges.
  • Turn controls to adjust table levels, pressure boards and feed rolls according to depth of cut and thickness of stock.
  • Start planer and position lumber on conveyor/inserts lumber between feed rolls that carry lumber through planer.
  • Repair, set-up, and adjust planer for required sizes.
  • Operation Monitoring: Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area.
  • Properly set up the planer to maximize lumber quality.
  • Grease and oil the planer machine, doing light maintenance, maintaining equipment effectively.
  • Examine logs for defects and report any issues to Quality Control.
  • Perform tasks, such as cleaning table, helping in other areas, etc.
  • Cross-trained in other areas of the mill.
  • Retain an awareness of the work environment critical to the task at hand to produce error free and damage free results.
