The Placement Specialist will be responsible for marketing, quoting, and binding new business, building and maintaining relationships with members and carrier underwriters, serving as a liaison between members and insurance carriers, and providing excellent service to all FirstChoice members and partners. This is a hybrid position based out of the Richmond, VA office, requiring onsite work Monday through Thursday with the option to work remotely on Fridays. The role reports directly to the Risk Placement Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’ Degree in Finance, Business, or other related field or the equivalent of 8+ years’ experience in commercial insurance.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in commercial lines insurance.
  • P&C license required.
  • Proficient with technology: CRM, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • In depth knowledge of insurance coverages and carriers.
  • Drives for results: Consistently meets or exceeds expectations. Ensures timely and accurate completion of all assignments and projects. Pushes through challenges to achieve quantifiable results.
  • Customer service: Consistently demonstrates a “customer first” attitude. Ensures the customer has a complete and satisfactory experience in terms of products/services rendered and questions/concerned addressed.

Responsibilities

  • Review new business submissions and triage appropriately.
  • Identify the best opportunities as well as accounts to decline due to class of business, insufficient lead time, E&S or non-standard business, etc. within established procedures and timeline.
  • Market new and renewal business based on the applicant’s risk profile and geographic location.
  • Prepare carrier-generated proposals and communicate results to members.
  • Proactively develop relationships with members in the assigned territory.
  • Work with Regional Sales Directors/Regional Sales Leaders to identify and capitalize on cross-sell opportunities.
  • Maintain knowledge of basic underwriting skills, insurance regulations, best practices, and carrier appetites.
  • Educate agents and insureds regarding insurance coverages, needs, and pricing.
  • Maintain a suspense system to proactively follow-up on quotes, member correspondence, and any outstanding items to bind policies and successfully close new business.
  • Maintain electronic files in an orderly manner as prescribed in the FirstChoice standard operating procedures.
  • Provide timely, courteous, and professional customer service to all FirstChoice members and partners.
  • Contribute to individual and team written premium goals.
  • Other special projects, tasks, or duties as assigned by Management.
