The Placement Line Coordinator is a vital member of the foster care team within the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS). This role focuses on receiving referrals for youth needing placement, primarily in non-relative foster care, and conducting diligent searches to match youth with appropriate caregivers. The coordinator is responsible for maintaining communication with callers, documenting in an electronic system, and participating in team meetings to ensure the best placements for youth in need.

  • Receive referrals from peer field staff regarding youth needing placement.
  • Conduct diligent searches for youth needing placement and provide appropriate matches to their needs.
  • Document interactions and placements in an electronic system.
  • Maintain good communication with callers regarding placement status.
  • Attend team meetings to identify appropriate homes based on youth needs.
  • Participate in brainstorming strategies to maintain placement stability.
  • Investigate reported incidents of child abuse, neglect, or dependency.
  • Assess risk levels to children and determine necessary actions, including potential removal from families.
  • Perform needs assessments for families and children reported to be abused or neglected.
  • Testify and prepare reports for juvenile court or county directors.
  • Develop informal adjustment plans to divert children from the juvenile justice system.
  • Create case plans to assist families in achieving self-sufficiency and permanent homes for children.
  • Monitor and assess treatment programs to ensure consistency with case plans.
  • Accept on-call responsibilities to investigate allegations of child abuse or neglect.
  • Conduct home studies and recommend placements for adoption.
  • Visit children in out-of-home placements to coordinate family reunification or adoption efforts.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work or related field; or an Associate degree with a minimum of two years of human services experience; or completion of 30 college credit hours with a minimum of three years of human services experience; or a minimum of four years of human services experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of social work principles and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws affecting child protection services.
  • Ability to investigate and interview alleged victims and perpetrators of child abuse or neglect.
  • Ability to prepare clear and accurate reports.
  • Ability to work with families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience in child welfare or foster care systems.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services available for families and children.
