About The Position

District Works stands strong in the Bay Area's Urban Place Management community, providing a wide variety of services that help create beautiful community spaces, neighborhoods, and public parks by removing litter, installing & maintaining landscaping, and hosting events. We provide highly trained Place Managers to make public plazas, downtowns, and neighborhoods more comfortable and welcoming for all. A Place Manager for District Works provides supervision of business improvement districts, community benefit districts, local agencies, and municipality cleaning and safety programs. Our services include cleaning detail while offering exceptional customer service and hospitality. Place Managers report directly to the Program Coordinator, but may take direction from the executive management team including the Program Director, General Manager, and Chief Executive Officer. As a District Works Place Manager, you will provide a wide variety of essential services to Community Benefit Districts and public agencies. We support our clients with Urban Place Management services through public realm improvement and hospitality services. Your duties will be varied; however, the ideal candidate will demonstrate interpersonal skills that contribute to the delivery of an exceptional customer experience. The primary responsibilities of the Place Manager include caretaking and radical hospitality, environmental stewardship, groundskeeping and maintenance, and zone management, dispatch, and reporting. You will engage with residents, visitors, and employees, participate in community meetings, and practice radical hospitality to assist those in need, especially the unsheltered. You will also be responsible for trash collection, graffiti removal, and maintaining public spaces to ensure they are clean and welcoming. In addition, you will supervise district zones, manage special projects, and ensure effective communication with the public and staff. The role requires physical capacity to walk or ride a bicycle while towing debris, working outdoors in various conditions, and maintaining a positive and professional environment. You will be expected to create compassionate connections with community members and remain calm in crisis situations, promoting positive communication and de-escalation when necessary.
