About The Position

Structural Integrity Associates, Inc. (SIA) seeks a Piping Analysis Engineering Consultant with a strong foundation in the design, analysis, and evaluation of ASME Section III Class I piping systems. The successful candidate will perform and review piping stress and fatigue analyses supporting operating plant assessments, license renewal, uprate, and advanced reactor design and startup programs. This position supports SIA’s Nuclear Business Unit, contributing to projects involving thermal fatigue, vibration, seismic qualification, and fitness-for-service of piping and components. The ideal candidate is analytically strong, detail-oriented, and eager to learn from industry leaders who helped write the ASME Code methods used today.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (M.S. preferred).
  • 3–8 years of experience performing piping analysis in a power generation or industrial environment.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Section III (Class 1) or B31.1 Power Piping design rules.
  • Proficiency with commercial analysis software (e.g., PIPESTRESS, AutoPIPE, CAESAR II, ANSYS) and ability to interpret complex results.
  • Understanding of piping support design, vibration diagnostics, and thermal transients.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-disciplinary project teams.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required for certain nuclear projects..

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting license renewal (LR/SLR) or power uprate programs.
  • High Temperature Piping Analysis (e.g., >800◦F)
  • Familiarity with fracture mechanics, fatigue monitoring, or thermal stratification analysis.
  • Exposure to vibration field testing or flow-induced vibration diagnostics.
  • Understanding of fitness-for-service methodologies per API 579-1/ASME FFS-1.
  • Working knowledge of nuclear QA programs (10CFR50 Appendix B) and industry standards (EPRI, ASME, WRC).

Responsibilities

  • Perform piping stress analyses per ASME Section III (subsections NB, NC/ND and NF) and related codes using commercial tools (e.g., PIPESTRESS, AutoPIPE, CAESAR II, ME101, or ANSYS).
  • Conduct analyses for thermal, seismic, vibration, and dynamic loads in nuclear and fossil applications.
  • Support evaluations related to thermal stratification, vibration, and fatigue life of piping systems.
  • Develop calculation packages, design reports, and engineering justifications for system modifications or continued operation.
  • Participate in failure evaluations, wall-thinning assessments, and fitness-for-service (FFS) analyses for degraded piping.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (materials, chemistry, FEA, vibration, etc.) to provide integrated solutions.
  • Prepare technical documentation, participate in client meetings, and support proposal efforts for new work.
  • Contribute to development of internal tools, process improvements (small automation scripts to streamline analyses), and best-practice guides for piping integrity.
