About The Position

The Pipeline Operator is a 12-hour rotating shift position, including nights, weekends, and holidays, responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, reliable, and compliant operation of the Meraux pipeline station and associated facilities, including product movements to Collins, MS via the Collins pipeline system. This is a hands-on role focused on learning and assisting with pipeline operations under supervision, including monitoring pump stations and valves, overseeing product quality, performing scraper (pigging) activities, conducting routine inspections, and coordinating maintenance activities. This role is structured as a formal entry point into the technician and/or operator career pathway, with defined training and qualification requirements. The Pipeline Operator will receive comprehensive training to support effective coordination between refinery production, terminal storage, and pipeline transportation, while also assisting with truck rack activities as needed and completing applicable training and certifications to progress into higher-level technician or operator roles.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1–2 years of experience in pipeline operations, pump stations, refinery interface, terminal operations, or related fields preferred. Transferable skills from industrial, mechanical, or logistics environments are highly valued.
  • Basic knowledge or willingness to learn liquid pipeline systems, pump stations, mechanical equipment, product quality requirements, and hazardous liquid handling.
  • Understanding or ability to quickly grasp relevant regulations, including DOT/PHMSA (49 CFR 195), OSHA, EPA, and pipeline system operating principles through provided training.
  • Mechanical aptitude with potential for developing basic troubleshooting skills for pumps, valves, instrumentation, and automation equipment.
  • Strong communication, teamwork skills, and a commitment to safety culture; leadership potential encouraged.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; experience with terminal automation software, HMI, or data management systems is desirable but not required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC card, valid driver's license, and meet all company standards for safety-sensitive positions, including passing a respirator/SCBA fit test.

  • Current Operator Qualifications (OQ) for relevant covered tasks under 49 CFR 195.
  • Demonstrated adaptability to evolving technologies and expanded operational responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in operating and monitoring pipeline pump stations, valves, and auxiliary equipment in accordance with approved operating procedures, including starting, stopping, and adjusting pumps to support normal and abnormal operations, with guidance from senior operators.
  • Learn to monitor pressures, flows, temperatures, and alarms to ensure system integrity and safe operation; support responses to alarms, upsets, abnormal conditions, and emergencies following established procedures.
  • Support verification and oversight of product quality for refined products such as Jet A/Kerosene, ULSD, gasoline, and crude oil, including routine checks, sampling, testing, and documentation to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Assist with scraper (pigging) launching and receiving activities, verifying lineups, valve positioning, and pressure conditions; help monitor scraper movement and coordinate with control room and field personnel.
  • Participate in routine inspections of pump stations, valves, right-of-way (ROW), exposed piping, and equipment for leaks, damage, or abnormal conditions; perform basic valve maintenance and place/maintain pipeline markers and signage under supervision.
  • Support preventative and corrective maintenance activities, including equipment isolation, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and coordination with maintenance teams and contractors.
  • Assist with flow meter proving, calibration, measurement verification, and inventory management; maintain accurate operational logs, inspection records, and compliance documentation with training provided.
  • Coordinate with refinery operations, commercial scheduling, control center personnel, carriers, and contractors to optimize product movements, scheduling, and availability, building skills through on-the-job experience.
  • Participate in emergency response drills, incident investigations, and real-world response efforts; report unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents.
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, PHMSA (49 CFR 195), and company policies, with emphasis on training and development.
  • Identify and contribute to opportunities for improvements in safety, reliability, efficiency, automation, and cost reduction as skills develop.
  • Complete and maintain required qualifications, including Operator Qualification (OQ) tasks, HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR, TWIC, and measurement training, with company support for candidates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall pipeline and terminal operations, including basic truck rack support when required.
