About The Position

The Pipeline Integrity Management Specialist is responsible for overseeing the integrity management of gas transmission and distribution pipelines in Michigan. This role involves conducting inspections, analyzing complex data sets, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations related to pipeline safety. The specialist plays a critical role in maintaining the safety and reliability of the natural gas infrastructure that serves millions of residents and businesses in the state.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree with a major in engineering.
  • Four years of professional experience in public utilities engineering involving analysis of utility rate structures, operations, and safety standards.
  • Two years of experience equivalent to a Public Utilities Engineer P11 or one year equivalent to a Public Utilities Engineer 12.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge related to pipeline design and operation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hydrogen systems and landfill gas systems.
  • Familiarity with propane distribution systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of gas transmission pipeline operators' plans and records related to Gas Transmission Pipeline Integrity Management (49 CFR 192 Subpart O).
  • Conduct statewide inspections of distribution pipeline operators' plans and records related to Gas Distribution Pipeline Integrity Management (49 CFR 192 Subpart P).
  • Track and conduct follow-up inspections statewide of pipeline incidents and Safety Related Conditions.
  • Assist management with the maintenance of the Gas Operations Section's risk-based inspection model and related procedures.
  • Analyze complex data sets and risk-management algorithms related to pipeline integrity management.
