About The Position

C.J. Hughes Construction Co., Inc. is actively seeking an experienced Pipelayer to join our Water Division. This role involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of water pipelines and related infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pipelaying, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in diverse weather conditions and challenging environments. This is a hands-on, field-based role, and may require travel between various project sites.

Requirements

• Prior experience in pipelaying, specifically within water distribution or utility systems.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools for pipe installation.
• Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings.
• Understanding trench safety, shoring techniques, and confined space requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Physical ability to perform manual labor and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
• Must be highly productive and safe.
• Must be able to determine and accomplish required grade work requirements.
• Must have dependable transportation.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

• Accurately lay and connect pipes for water distribution systems, ensuring correct alignment and placement in trenches.
• Excavate and prepare trenches to specifications, including leveling and grading, to ensure secure and stable pipeline installation.
• Align and position pipes accurately, making necessary adjustments to meet grade and alignment specifications.
• Apply sealing materials and perform tests to ensure there are no leaks and the pipeline is properly sealed.
• Safely operate heavy equipment, such as trenchers and excavators, when required to assist in pipelaying tasks.
• Assist with general site preparation, clear debris, and ensure that the site is cleaned and safe after each task.
• Follow all safety procedures, including the proper use of protective equipment and adherence to OSHA standards.
• Record project progress, including measurements, materials used, and any issues encountered during installation.
