A Pipefitter / Equipment Setter / Pipelayer Laborer is responsible for the quality and completion of all assigned tasks in compliance with Vogel Bros. Building Co. Quality Control and Safety Programs. Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Pipefitting and equipment setting operations involve skilled and manual labor tasks. Employee must perform a variety of repetitive duties involving physical activity. A. Quality Control 1. Comply with job assignments and specific instructions from the Superintendent and/or Foreman. B. Safety 1. Comply with Vogel Bros. Building Co. Safety Program, jobsite specific safety rules, and directions from Supervisors. 2. Maintain high safety standards by setting a personal example. 3. Maintain and use safety equipment properly. 4. Participate in all scheduled “Safety Meetings.” C. Schedule 1. Follow direction from the Superintendent and/or Foreman to complete assigned tasks and goals in the expected time period. 2. Provide accurate information to complete time cards. D. Support Services 1. Inform the Superintendent or Foreman of equipment shortages or specific needs for the task. 2. Attend scheduled training sessions to improve quality and productivity. E. General Duties – Pipefitter / Equipment Setter 1. Prepare or work from blueprints, specifications, sketches and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s). 2. Layout, fabricate, assemble and install (route) and align pipe and piping systems (such as ductile iron, PVC, steel, copper and black iron), machinery and equipment (such as pumps, collection mechanisms, generators, tanks, motors, shafting, conveyors and rail systems). 3. Dismantle and move pipe and piping systems, machinery and equipment. 4. Set and check anchor bolts and fastening devices before concrete placements. 5. Parameters of work must be within precise limits and at a high level of accuracy. 6. Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction activities. 7. Understand basic knowledge of piping systems, materials and methods. 8. Operate and utilize the following equipment and machinery as part of the pipefitting and equipment setting process: hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, power tools, hammers, wrenches, crowbars, dollies, rollers, hand trucks, jacks, squares, rules, micrometers and plumb bobs. 9. Clean tools, equipment and work areas. 10. All tools required to complete the work must be provided by the pipefitter / equipment setter. These include cutting goggles, welding gloves, hammer, tape measure, wedges (2), plumb bob, chalk line, levels, laser, combination wrenches, adjustable wrenches, slip joint pliers, pipe wrap, wire brush and any other trade-specific tools. F. General Duties – Pipelayer Laborer 1. Dig, spread and level dirt, gravel, concrete and other construction materials. 2. Lift, carry and hold building materials, tools and supplies. 3. Clean tools, equipment, materials and work areas. 4. Remove, sort and clean concrete form systems. 5. Operate and provide general maintenance servicing of power and hand tools, pneumatic tools, machines, automobiles and construction vehicles. 6. Assemble, install and repair underground pipes and fittings, includes locating and marking correct positions of pipes and fittings in underground trenches. 7. Assemble and install valves, pipes and fittings composed of metal, PVC, ductile and concrete. 8. Measure and cut pipes. 9. Test pipes for leakage. 10. Join pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder and plastic solvent cement. 11. Direct equipment operators with hand signals. 12. Backfill around pipes using hand tools. 13. Provide support to all of the trades as needed. 14. All pipelayer tools required to complete the work must be provided by the pipelayer. These include a hammer, welder’s hammer, ball peen hammer, tape measure, plumb bob, torpedo level, laser, crescent wrench, MJ wrenches, pipe wrench, pliers, screw drivers, chisels, pipe wrap, rubber boots, gloves and any other trade-specific tools.
