About The Position

The position involves layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, and maintenance of piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for various systems including steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems. The work schedule varies depending on the assigned project.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED
  • Minimum of 6 months experience, one year certificate from a technical school or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid driver's license to operate motor vehicles
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, and perform these operations using unit weight measurements and volumes
  • Ability to calculate rate, ratios, and percentages
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
  • Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards

Responsibilities

  • Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
  • Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications
  • Inspect worksite to determine presence of obstructions and to ensure that holes will not cause structural weakness
  • Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers
  • Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine
  • Thread pipe using threading machine
  • Bend pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine
  • Assemble and install a variety of metals and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including brass, copper, lead, fiberglass, steel, plastic, etc.
  • Join pipe by means of thread, caulking, welding, solder, braze, fuse, or cemented joints
  • Use hand tools to secure pipe to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers
  • Install and maintain refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping
  • Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks
  • Weld holding fixtures to structural steel members
  • Maintain a professional appearance
  • Other duties as assigned by Foreman or Superintendent
