About The Position

The Pipefitter/Welder Apprentice supports the Industrial team by assisting with the layout, fabrication, installation, and repair of piping systems and welded components under the direction of experienced journeymen. This role is designed for individuals who are early in their trade career and looking to develop strong skills in pipefitting and welding in an industrial environment, with a focus on safety, quality, and reliability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 0–2 years of experience in pipefitting, welding, or a related industrial/mechanical trade (school, co-op, or shop experience accepted).
  • Basic understanding of hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices (tape measure, levels, squares, etc.).
  • Interest in developing skills in pipe layout, fitting, and welding processes.
  • Ability to read and follow basic drawings, measurements, and verbal instructions.
  • Strong commitment to safety and willingness to follow all site and company safety rules.
  • Ability to work in industrial environments (standing, bending, lifting up to [X] lbs, working at heights, etc.).
  • Reliable transportation and ability to report to assigned shop or job sites as scheduled.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn from journeymen and supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist journeyman pipefitters and welders with layout, measurement, and preparation of pipe and structural components.
  • Help cut, thread, bevel, and fit pipe using hand and power tools, following drawings and specifications.
  • Support welding activities (stick, MIG, TIG, etc.) by prepping materials, cleaning welds, and maintaining a clean work area.
  • Move, position, and secure materials, tools, and equipment needed to complete assigned tasks.
  • Follow work instructions, blueprints, and isometric drawings as directed by supervisors and journeymen.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working order and report any issues or hazards.
  • Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements at all times.
  • Assist with housekeeping in the shop and field work areas to ensure a safe and organized environment.
  • Participate in ongoing training, coaching, and skills development to progress toward journeyman-level proficiency.
