About The Position

The Pipefitter is responsible for proper removal, and/or installation of various piping systems. This includes cutting, grinding, and prepping multiple sizes and material types of pipe. The Pipefitter must have the ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and sketches, and have an understanding of the different joint designs IAW with MIL-STD -22D, and basic knowledge of MIL-STD-777F, and NSTP-278. In addition the Pipefitter must be able to obtain a Silver Braze certification, and have a general knowledge of the hazards associated with opening tanks and voids, including the installation of proper blanks and plugs to obtain Gas Free status. The Pipefitter must also have the ability to accomplish all required testing (hydrostatic,operational, etc.) IAW shipboard procedures.

Requirements

  • The ability to read and understand basic work specs, drawings, and diagrams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ship board piping systems.
  • Understands ship board terminology utilizing MIL-SPEC and NAVSEA references.
  • Demonstrated understanding of basic reading and mathematics is required for fit-up, lay-out, and fabrication of piping systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify multiple types of fittings, and what they are used for.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify different piping systems based off of abbreviations commonly used onboard the ship.
  • Demonstrated understanding of TAC numbers used to identify locations throughout the ship.
  • Maintains a silver braze qualification for CuNi (copper-nickel) piping systems onboard ships.
  • Maintains fire-watch qualification.
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum (5) years experience in Shipyard Pipifitting.

  • Plans, prepares, installs, and maintains ship board piping systems.
  • Consults blueprints, work orders, schematics, or instructions; creates working procedure based on specifications.
  • Gathers equipment and materials for the job.
  • Installs various types of insulation and pipe covering; safely removes and properly discards of old coverings according to hazardous waste procedures and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Inspects pipes, testing for pressure and leaks; reports and/or resolves problems.
  • Maintains records, including safety logs and inspection details.
  • Targets piping in shop for re-installation onboard the ship.
  • Ensures daily clean-up of work site at end of each day.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
