About The Position

This position is equivalent to a Journeyman Pipefitter in the trades and requires 5+ years of experience with mastery-level knowledge of piping systems and wet-side HVAC applications in commercial and industrial environments. A Pipefitter III works independently with minimal supervision, performing skilled installation, repair, replacement, and startup tasks for heating/cooling systems, including chillers, boilers, hydronic piping, and related equipment. This role supports CPS's commitment to 24/7 reliability, exceptional quality, and customer satisfaction for businesses, schools, hospitals, government facilities, and industrial clients across Kentucky.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in commercial/industrial pipefitting, with strong emphasis on wet-side HVAC systems (e.g., chillers, boilers, hydronic piping).
  • Current journeyman pipefitter license (or ability to obtain promptly); relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30, welding qualifications) preferred.
  • Proven expertise in blueprint reading, layout, pipe fabrication, threading, welding, grooving, and system troubleshooting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear documentation, team coordination, and client interaction.
  • Strong multitasking abilities with excellent follow-through on internal and external commitments.
  • Physically capable of working in demanding environments: lift up to 50 pounds, frequent bending/lifting, standing/walking on uneven terrain or in confined spaces, and safely climbing ladders/scaffolding.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, punctual, and professional in appearance and conduct.

  • Experience with government, institutional, or mission-critical facilities is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of wet-side commercial and industrial HVAC applications, system design, and best practices for optimal performance and energy efficiency.
  • Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain HVAC piping systems, including hydronic, chilled water, hot water, steam, and process piping.
  • Repair and replace piping systems, pipe supports, valves, pumps, and equipment for heating, cooling, and process applications in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Perform equipment startups, functional check-outs, system testing, and commissioning to verify proper operation and integration.
  • Document all work accurately by completing required paperwork, service reports, as-built documentation, and backup records for compliance and client handover.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safety at all times, following OSHA regulations, company policies, and site-specific requirements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and P&IDs to execute precise layouts and installations.
  • Collaborate effectively with project teams, supervisors, and clients to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.
