About The Position

This is a construction project with an expected duration of eight (8) to ten (10) months. The anticipated start date is mid to late May 2026. The typical schedule is 84 hours per week (40 hours straight time and a minimum of 44 hours at time and a half). All meals and lodging are provided by Worley while the employee is on location. Transportation between Anchorage and Prudhoe Bay is provided. The purpose of this role is to assist various assigned crafts journeymen in job setup and performance of work.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of machines and tools used in welding, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Familiar with drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and safety data sheets to plan layout of welding operations.
  • Ability to operate safety equipment and knowledge of safe work habits.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid driver’s license preferred including ability to be insured by Worley auto insurer.
  • North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC).

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a certified Alaska secondary trade school.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on material.
  • Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
  • Determine required equipment and welding methods.
  • Start up and make adjustments to welding machines, both electrical and mechanical.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
  • Set up and adjust cutting equipment, i.e., gauges, hoses, torches, for Air Carbon Arc Cutting, Plasma Arc Cutting, and Oxygen/Acetylene Cutting procedures.
  • Assist with chipping or grinding off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.
  • Assist with cutting, contouring, and beveling metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions as specified by blueprints, layouts, work orders, and templates.
  • Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
  • Completes records and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities.
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
  • Perform fire watch/ hole watch or heater attendant duties.
