About The Position

The Welder is responsible for performing the full range of journey-level structural welding, fitting, and fabrication. This position will assist with planning, scheduling, fabricating, and installing complex structural assemblies.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of related training and experience required.
  • Proficiency in down-hand and up-hand welding is required.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Driver License required.
  • Certification in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), or Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) in accordance with American Welding Society D1.1 required.
  • North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the oil and gas industry and in the arctic environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review blueprints and design drawings to prepare material take off's.
  • Perform all phases of advanced layout, positioning, aligning, and welding of structural metal products and components in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Complete structural steel demolition and modification, including but not limited to removal, straightening, reshaping, and reassembly of parts using cutting torches, air arc, and plasma torch and power tools.
  • Perform cutting of steel, stainless, and aluminum using oxy-acetylene, plasma torches, band saws, shears and punches.
  • Perform grinding, buffing, and prepping metal parts prior to welding.
  • Clean up after welding will include removal of all slag, smoke and spatter and proper clean up to produce a quality weld.
  • Support the erection of steel structures, platforms, support, stairs, and hand rails.
  • Calculate the weight of and find center of gravity of complex structures and structural steel members.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of apprentice welders and other crew members.
  • Follow direction from foreman and QC department.
  • Review Isometric & P&ID drawings, and job specifications to determine work requirements.
  • Prepare material for welding, cutting or fabrication.
  • Fabricate and modify piping systems and process equipment, and draft or redline drawings as needed.
  • Field verification of piping & structural systems.
  • Weld in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Maintain records of work orders and materials used.
  • Have knowledge of hand & power tools, as well as hydraulic, air & electric shop equipment.
  • Use of Respiratory equipment, local and portable exhaust ventilation systems (LEV), as well as Power Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR), along with half-mask and full-face respirators.
  • Be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
  • Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
