About The Position

Performs a variety of manual tasks involving physical labor associated with pipe laying and excavating equipment functions at work sites as directed by supervisor or general manager.

  • Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift pushes, pull or carry objects.
  • Ability to quickly respond with hand, finger or foot to a signal, including the ability to choose quickly between two or more movements in response to two or more different signals such as lights, sounds, pictures etc.
  • Ability to move hands quickly, grasp, manipulate or assemble objects.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, equipment and tools involved in the construction/excavating business and the ability to handle and/or operate them safely and responsibly.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5 years construction or excavation experience with specific experience performing the duties associated with pipe laying and equipment operations.
  • A valid State of Washington driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels and/or lasers.
  • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints using cement or glue.
  • Cover pipes with earth or other materials, cut pipes to required lengths.
  • Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools.
  • Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools.
  • Install and repair sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems.
  • Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors.
  • Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement, using magnetic or radio indications.
  • Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
  • Install and use instruments such as lasers, grade rods and transit levels.
  • Operate mechanized equipment such as pickup trucks, roller, tandem dump trucks, front-end loader and backhoes.
