SUMMARY The Manufacturing Header Machinist maximizes efficiency through the process of set-ups and operations of one or more header machines for the manufacture of all types of bolts and special products launch for new or revised products. Processes methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Working experience of manufacturing environment procedures
  • A minimum of 4 years related industrial machine shop experience in operation equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to perform simple written instructions, correspondence or memos. Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Knowledge of basic shop math. Ability to calculate in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units and weight measurement, volume, and distance
  • Ability to define problems by data collection, establish facts and follow instructions in written and basic diagram formats. Ability to multi-task variety of problem solving and deal with several internal and external situations.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer skills and departmental applications: SPC & Shop Floor System.
  • Evidence of “US person” is required under ITAR

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates automatic machines to produce machined parts according to blueprints, specifications and/or special instructions.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work-piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Productivity needs to be maintained at performance standards associated with daily, weekly and monthly KPI’s.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed and feed.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work-piece to specifications.
  • Prepares and verifies production machine operations on trial run to ensure accuracy of machine settings.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Checks parts for conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers and gauges and perform SPC
  • Recognizes and remedies minor machine malfunctioning or cutting action of tools. Major discrepancies are reported to supervisor.
  • Complete rebuilding of precision machine tools and equipment.
  • Provide necessary information to Manufacturing team, Engineering Team or others to document procedures and drawings.
  • Identifies, disassembles and determines corrective action required to repair work or broken parts.
  • Checks tooling and reworks as needed to keep machine running.
  • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Represents manufacturing on cross-functional teams.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Works directly with all levels in the organization including, management/supervision on continuous improvement efforts regarding machines, components and manufacturing systems.
  • Works under general supervision with a certain degree of latitude as required.
  • Performs record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follows all safety regulations.
  • Adheres to all company Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, practices, and procedures.
  • All employees are responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
  • All employees are responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.
  • All employees are required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve our HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.
  • Works under recommended waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the manufacturing production function such as recycling opportunities to elimination or minimize production waste.
  • Performs a variety of other related duties as assigned.
