About The Position

The Pilot Plant Operator Level II is responsible for the daily operation and monitoring of the equipment, reactor units, and procedures for the Pilot Plant area to produce chemical products and intermediates with limited supervision from the Pilot Plant Manager or Pilot Operator IV. May serve as team leader during a shift. This will include the oversight and handling of chemicals, operation of chemical processing equipment and controls to execute formulas/recipes, completion of in-process analytical testing for process decisions, and housekeeping and maintenance of Pilot area. Provides instruction and direction to less experienced pilot plant operators and trainees who assist in processing operations. Should be able to run lab reactions and basic analytical instruments when required. Must be a champion for safety and understand hazards that will help keep himself and others around him safe. Safety/Health/Environment: The Pilot Plant Operator is responsible for his/her and their team’s safety at all times Ensure safe conditions in the working environment through standard practices, procedures, training, formula reviews, MOC meetings, etc. Complete all assigned and required safety training in a timely manner Research Contributor: Run Pilot batches per Pilot Schedule and the Pilot Plant Formula. Communicate status/issues with Chemists, Engineers, and Manager Compile data and provide observations from Pilot operations/batches Offer suggestions or ideas for simplifying or improving Pilot operations or project operations Be able to stage, load, and unload raw materials/products as needed for Pilot operations Minimize unplanned events/processes Effectively operate Pilot Processing equipment, and other equipment related to Pilot as needed Troubleshoot each piece of equipment for plugged lines, agitation failure, heating and cooling failures, etc. Complete analytical tests as described by SOPs Delegates and assists in priority setting of daily schedule to ensure safe and efficient plant operations Serves as technical knowledge/resource Reviews changes to training, procedure, and equipment/processing parameters Checks products routinely for multiple characteristics using measuring devices Adjusts set-up and process operation accordingly Maintains production records and monitors product quality Assist chemists in the lab with running experiments safely and maintaining a lab record. Is able to run basic analytical instruments for data collection Quality: Understand the Quality System, how it affects/impacts job functions, and what requirements are needed in their job functions to comply with this system Plant Conditions: Pilot Operators are owners of the equipment in Pilot and are responsible for the Pilot Plant area, its equipment, maintenance, and housekeeping needs Computer Activities: Be responsible for several computer related activities including checking emails, creating maintenance work orders, inputting pilot data, job paperwork, inventory tracking, recipe reviews, etc. Other Costs: Make decisions that best benefit the Company as related to Pilot costs (repairs, equipment purchases, etc.)
