About The Position

As an Electrical & Instrumentation Technician at the JFB Technical Center, you will be a critical technical expert responsible for the reliability and performance of our food processing equipment. Working in a dynamic R&D environment, you will provide essential electrical, controls, and instrumentation support. Your role is key to ensuring the highest standards of human safety, food safety, and equipment uptime. This position involves a mix of preventative maintenance, corrective repairs, and direct troubleshooting support for new product tests and production runs. You will collaborate closely with a diverse team of operators, engineers, and R&D personnel in a fast-paced setting. Work hours are 1st shift 6am-2pm, Monday – Friday with occasional overtime support during the week and on weekends.

Requirements

  • A two-year trade school certificate in an accredited electrical program OR a minimum of two years of related industrial electrical experience.
  • Proven experience installing and maintaining process electrical components.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety standards, including NFPA 70E and NEC.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to use root cause analysis to solve recurring problems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex electrical wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a high-activity environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 55 pounds.
  • Flexibility to work occasional overtime during the week and on weekends as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • State of Minnesota Journey Worker or Maintenance Electrician License.
  • Basic knowledge and hands-on experience with mechanical drive components, fasteners, and lubrication.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and continuously improve electrical systems for process equipment across our pilot plant and lab spaces.
  • Diagnose and repair advanced motor control circuits, including Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and servo motor controls.
  • Troubleshoot, program, and maintain Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting and repairs to ensure total equipment health.
  • Troubleshoot and calibrate a wide variety of process control instrumentation, including sensors and transmitters for pressure, flow, temperature, humidity, torque, current, and voltage.
  • Champion a culture of safety by performing daily risk assessments, conducting equipment safety audits, and actively promoting a safe work environment.
  • Ensure all work complies with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
  • Partner effectively with operators, managers, engineers, and R&D personnel to support project goals and timelines.
  • Communicate technical issues and solutions clearly to team members at all levels.
