About The Position

As a Piledriver, you will perform maintenance, repairs, and construction projects in support of Marine Maintenance at the Port of Seattle maritime facilities. You will build, repair, and maintain marine structures on land, various piers, or from a boat, depending on operational needs, including docks, piers, and pilings made of wood, concrete, or steel, and perform welding and metal fabrication as required to support these structures. You will perform a wide range of work from dock construction to detailed interior carpentry in a shop or field setting. You will repair and maintain pilings made of wood, concrete, or steel that support marine structures. You will perform basic welding and metal fabrication as needed to support the construction and repair of marine structures. You will review work orders, plans, and requests to understand project requirements and gather needed materials. You will fabricate, install, and repair fixtures and complete tenant improvement projects. You will construct platforms, decking, walkways, and other supporting structures for project sites. You will assist with inspections, document conditions, and support preventative maintenance efforts. You will operate vehicles and equipment such as forklifts and watercraft to complete work assignments, while tracking time, communicating with your team, and assisting other trades as needed.

Requirements

  • Experienced – You have completed an approved piledriver apprenticeship program or have 5 years of experience in the trade. You are a certified welder by The Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO) in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) on all positions E7018 (1’’ unlimited stick cert).
  • Educated – You possess a High School Diploma or GED.

  • Knowledgeable – You are able to read blueprints or sketches, have the skills to identify the best methods to correctly complete assigned tasks, and you are able to operate shop and portable power tools. Additionally, you have a working knowledge of Windows-based computers and related accessories, time tracking software, keyboarding and data input skills, as well as familiarity of electronic mail software. Lastly, you have the ability to safely operate a work skiff and motor vehicle(s).
  • Collaborative – You are able to work independently or as part of a team, and partner with staff to achieve results.
  • Customer Service Oriented – You have strong customer service and time management skills.
