About The Position

Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children has been providing compassionate care to the children, teenagers, and young adults of Central Florida for more than 30 years. Located on the downtown Orlando campus, the hospital includes 156 licensed beds for specialized care for children, as well as the Bert Martin's Champions for Children Emergency Department & Trauma Center, which offers trauma care for children as the pediatric site of the Orlando Health ORMC Level One Trauma Center. The hospital is recognized for its state-of-the-art pediatric services provided by a comprehensive staff that includes pediatric subspecialty physicians and a nursing team that is 'Magnet' recognized for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care. The hospital has earned national recognition for 12 consecutive years as a 'Best Children's Hospitals' by U.S. News & World Report and was included in the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® list for 2021. The APMC Vascular access team consists of Registered Nurses specially trained in the use of Ultrasound for placement of PICC lines, Midlines, Peripheral IVs, and phlebotomy utilizing sterile and aseptic techniques. The patient population includes infants to geriatric patients, and the team is consulted for patients at Winnie Palmer and Arnold Palmer Hospitals. The Vascular Access RN also functions as a resource for bedside RNs, collaborates with physicians to ensure appropriate access is provided, and monitors PICC lines to ensure proper function. Team members are encouraged to obtain Vascular Access Board Certification within 1 year of hire. Arnold Palmer Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse to administer patient care in an area in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting where an acute care patient receives active treatment for an injury, episode of illness, a medical condition, or post-intervention with assessment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Maintains current State of Florida RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license.
  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
  • ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas.
  • At least two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Vascular Access Board Certification within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient's needs and develops/revises an individualized plan of care based on patient needs and responses.
  • Evaluates the patient's progress toward attaining expected outcomes.
  • Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers.
  • Functions as a patient and family advocate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/or nurse clinician.
  • Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage the unit/department.
  • Serves as a role model for staff and supports the hospital and nursing department's goals and strategies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Coordinates the care and delegates as appropriate to other team members on a defined group of patients.
  • Documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner meeting all required and regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment.
  • Prioritizes patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.
  • Practices effective problem identification and resolution.
  • Delegates tasks and duties to healthcare team members in accordance with the patient's needs and the team member's capabilities and qualifications.
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding patient condition or unit concerns to other health care team members.
  • Demonstrates caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues and patients' rights.
  • Collaborates with the education department and nursing leadership team to effectively transition and support new team members and/or students.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
