Parts Inspector/Finish Repair Technician Innovation is the heart of Brunswick. See how your contributions will help transform vision into reality: Grade: 4 – Tech I Grade: 5.2 – Tech II (must pass skills test) Position Overview: Responsible for constructing and repairing fiberglass boat hulls, decks, and small parts. This role involves using a variety of tools and materials to ensure high-quality finishes and structural integrity. Essential Functions: Tech I Building and repairing fiberglass boat hulls, decks, and small parts using hand tools and specialty tools like gel-coat spray equipment, grinders, buffers, and drills. Inspecting parts and understanding fiberglass finishes or basic use of abrasives. Handling and applying solvents, paints, pastes, putty, and wax, along with proper disposal. Follow specific job instructions and provide verbal and/or written status of part completion. Recognizing and protecting boat components while performing finishing duties. Tech II Advanced knowledge and proficiency in all Tech I job duties. Satisfactory completion of an internal skills test that will include, but is not limited to: Ability to demonstrate proper gel to catalyst chemical mixture through calculating proper component levels and ability to mix to standard temperatures. Requires demonstration, in a specified timeframe, of acceptable repair methodologies for the following defects on a small part geometry following gel coat surface acceptance criteria: dual action sand marks and blemishes, pits, pinholes, craters, cracks, mold marks, air voids, takeoff and buff. Diversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however, others can be developed along the way.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 2-3 years of boat building experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of hand tools.
  • Ability to read and understand prints and production schedules.
  • Ability to work with suspended loads and heavy lifting, up to 50lbs.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements in a positive and proactive way.
  • Excellent attention to detail for identifying defects and inconsistencies in parts and components.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in quality control or inspection, preferably in a manufacturing or marine environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with precision measuring tools and equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, and coordinate measuring machines.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve quality issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Strong ability to meticulously document inspection findings and maintain accurate records.
