Under the direction of the physician or RN, the Physiology Technician assists in care of patients undergoing endoscopic examinations and invasive procedures. A Brief Overview Under the direction of the physician or RN, the Physiology Technician assists in care of patients undergoing endoscopic examinations and invasive procedures. Responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and cleaning of equipment and supplies. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Technical Degree or Diploma Nursing Assistant required
  • No prior work experience
  • Possess basic endoscopy preparation skills and the ability to perform the role of endoscopy tech for invasive procedures.
  • Knowledge and practice of basic patient care concepts and application of the principles of asepsis.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations as would be acquired through completion of high school.
  • Ability to take emergency on-call responsibility on 24 hour rotating basis.
  • Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials, such as patient records.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with Associates, physicians and other outside professionals.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgement.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of workflow.
  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical assistance to physician for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
  • Applies principles of aseptic techniques to maintain a clean field for endoscopy services.
  • Under the direct supervision of an RN, provide post-procedure care for patients undergoing endoscopy and conscious sedation.
  • Effectively manages resources such as supplies and equipment.
  • Plans work and completes job responsibilities in an efficient and productive manner.
