About The Position

The Physiology and Nutrition Research Intern position at Leidos offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in field-based research within the Naval Health Research Center's Warfighter Performance Department. The role focuses on improving the health and performance of military personnel through various research projects, requiring interaction with human subjects and adherence to strict research protocols.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in nutrition, biology, physiology, exercise science, psychology, or a related scientific field from an accredited college or university
  • Proven ability to read, comprehend, and follow research protocols and instructions set forth by principal investigators and team leads
  • An ability to work cooperatively in a team setting
  • Ability to work non-regular hours (e.g., nights and weekends) as needed for data collection
  • Ability to work professionally and respectfully with military service members
  • Ability to perform human subjects' data collection from an active-duty military population undergoing training and operations while not inhibiting or otherwise negatively impacting those training and operations procedures
  • US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET government security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuing a master's degree is a plus
  • Any school experience with dietetics internship or equivalent education and experience
  • Any school experience conducting research with a military population
  • Active Interim or Secret clearance is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support recruitment of active duty, wounded warrior, and civilian subjects for human subject's research protocols; conduct pre-screening and meetings to obtain informed consent abiding by human-use approved principles
  • Follow human-use Institutional Review Board protocols and procedures for government research studies
  • Operate laboratory equipment; follow standard operating procedure documents for equipment; keep equipment secure
  • Interact with and collect physiological, biological, cognitive, and health data from human subjects, abiding by human research protection regulations
  • Conduct experimental preparation, testing and data collection, and organization in field and laboratory settings
  • Support data management and data analysis under the direction of research leads
  • Regularly and effectively communicate with project leads and principal investigators
  • Complete required compliance training on time
