The Physics Department at Bellevue College is seeking applications for a part-time physics instructor position. This role is designed for individuals who are collaborative and equity-minded, with a strong commitment to teaching effectiveness and closing opportunity gaps. The ideal candidate will have experience in physics education research, connecting theoretical classroom learning with experimental observation, and fostering an inclusive environment for students from diverse backgrounds. The primary responsibility of the instructor will be to teach physics to first-year students across various courses, with a focus on introductory mechanics. The instructor will present course content in a manner that reflects the students' backgrounds while achieving the objectives outlined in the course outcome documents provided by the department. The position is typically assigned on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. Compensation for a 5-credit lecture class ranges from $6,050.02 to $7,375.17, prorated based on the type and duration of assignments. New hires are placed at the minimum rate per union bargaining agreement, and certain positions may be eligible for additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend of up to $8,350 annually. Eligible employees who work a combined load of at least 50% at Bellevue College and other Washington State public institutions for two consecutive quarters can access health and dental insurance starting in the second quarter. In addition to teaching, faculty members are expected to maintain office hours and may participate in departmental and college activities. The Physics Department is part of the Physical Sciences Program within the Science Division, consisting of four full-time faculty and six adjunct faculty. The department offers over seventy sections of physics annually, including both lecture-based and inquiry-based courses. Faculty members are encouraged to engage in professional activities at regional and national levels, and the department is committed to excellence in teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for all students.
