We are seeking a Senior Level Physicist to support our Navy DoD customer radiation survivability assessment and research programs in Colorado Springs, CO. For more than 65 years, Arcfield has supported our Navy Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) customer by performing research, development, analysis, modeling and simulation, and testing. We provide support in the areas of programmatic and systems engineering, technical engineering, scientific analysis, and operational systems support for Navy SSP’s Strategic Weapons Systems (SWS). Our group performs system radiation hardening analysis and provides technical support to R&D programs for Navy SSP. We specialize in the modeling of hostile nuclear environments and the analysis of their effects on Navy weapon systems, both missile and warhead. We utilize both COTS and in-house developed software to perform computational physics analyses. We also take a lead role in collaborating with other industrial and government organizations in providing advanced technical support to our Navy SSP customer. The physicist will perform scientific analysis and computational modeling to evaluate intrinsic, normal, hostile radiation environments and their effect on the SWS. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of tasks spanning radiation transport calculations, Hardening and Vulnerability (H&V) calculations, Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) calculations, hostile nuclear environment definition, and planning and assessment of radiation/electrical/mechanical testing. The position will require the use of scientific and engineering simulation software, in particular radiation transport codes (e.g., MCNP, etc.), as well as with object-oriented programming languages (e.g., C++, Python, etc.). What you will do... Contribute to team efforts in the completion of radiation environment studies of flight systems. Perform modeling and simulation of radiation and electromagnetic effects on materials and electronics. Perform calculations with 2D and 3D radiation transport codes. Simulate electromagnetic phenomena using 3D FDTD and FEM codes. Perform circuit response analysis from first principles using tools such as SPICE. Implement calculations and simulations using numerical methods and quantify the uncertainties. Perform model validation studies using experiment results. Assist the customer in system planning, requirement definition, assessment, and qualification of current and future Navy weapon systems. Write professional scientific papers for distribution within Arcfield and the broader scientific community. Develop and deliver results at customer and peer review meetings. Interface directly with the customer. Travel for meetings and customer interactions as required.
