This role involves performing and documenting the initial commissioning and calibration of radiation sources used for treatment and managing the ongoing quality management of the equipment. Additionally, the medical physicist provides the necessary data for patient dose calculations and verifies the accuracy of such calculations for each patient. They work collaboratively to develop and implement procedures for accurate and safe patient treatments, investigate and implement advances in technology and procedures, and participate in ongoing practice improvement efforts. Ensuring that radiation treatments preserve the radiation safety of staff, patients, and the public is also a critical aspect of this position. The medical physicist assesses data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interprets information relative to the patient's age-specific needs. Furthermore, they provide teaching instruction and mentoring to medical physics residents and other staff and students, and participate in planning and budgeting processes.
