About The Position

NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital is seeking a Therapy Medical Physicist to join our Radiation Oncology Department in a hybrid role. Supported by Weill Cornell Medicine, our department combines the personalized care of a community practice with the resources and expertise of an academic institution. Physicist – Radiation Oncology – Full Time - Days When fully staffed, our physics team includes 3 full time physicists, 2 per diem physicists and 3 dosimetrists. We treat 40–70 patients daily together with 3 full time and 1 part time attending physicians on Varian TrueBeam and Clinac iX linacs. Our department manages a wide range of treatment sites and maintains active SRS, SBRT, and HDR programs, along with LDR and radiopharmaceutical therapies. We are proud to host an ACGME-accredited Radiation Oncology residency program with 4 residents. Serve as a clinical training site for the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse’s dosimetry program and maintain ACR accreditation. Our department is equipped with: Varian Aria, Eclipse, and Velocity Radformation tools: ClearCheck, ClearCalc, ChartCheck, AutoContour, QuickCode, and EzFluence QA equipment: Sun Nuclear MapCHECK 3, IC Profiler with quad wedges, 1D tank, and IBA Blue Phantom2 Support from a dedicated radiation oncology-specific IT team Full Varian support contracts and 1 in house linac engineer.

Requirements

  • M.S. in physics, medical physics or related field and at least three years of clinical radiation oncology physics working experience required for the staff medical physicist, or a Ph.D. in basic physics or medical physics.
  • At least two years of clinical physics experience required.
  • New York State Medical Physics License or Limited Permit from the Department of Education.
  • If hired with a Limited Permit, License must be obtained within two years of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Varian TrueBeam and Clinac iX linacs.
  • Familiarity with SRS, SBRT, HDR, LDR, and radiopharmaceutical therapies.
  • Experience in an academic medical center environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical physics support for radiation oncology treatments.
  • Collaborate with a team of physicists, dosimetrists, and radiation oncologists.
  • Ensure quality assurance and safety in radiation therapy procedures.
  • Participate in the training of residents and dosimetry students.
  • Maintain and operate advanced radiation therapy equipment.
