About The Position

The Medical Physicist is responsible for ensuring the safe and accurate delivery of radiation therapy treatments to cancer patients. This role supports all clinical, technical, and quality assurance activities related to radiation-producing equipment, treatment planning, and radiation safety. The physicist collaborates closely with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, therapists, and engineers to maintain the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Medical Physics or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) accredited residency.
  • American Board of Radiology certified in Medical Physics (ABMP).
  • Experience with IMRT, VMAT, Eclipse and Aria.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SBRT, SRS, HDR and 4DCT.
  • Proton experience is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and safe delivery of prescribed photon and proton therapy treatments in accordance with physician intent and departmental standards.
  • Provide clinical physics support for simulation, setup, and treatment delivery, verifying immobilization, imaging, and patient positioning for complex modalities (IMRT, VMAT, SRS, SBRT, brachytherapy, and proton therapy).
  • Collaborate with dosimetrists and physicians to develop, optimize, and review treatment plans, including pencil beam scanning, adaptive therapy, and advanced photon techniques.
  • Perform independent dose calculations, monitor unit verifications, and chart checks to maintain treatment accuracy and quality compliance.
  • Participate in adaptive workflows, including deformable registration, dose reconstruction, and plan adaptation.
  • Conduct acceptance testing, commissioning, calibration, and routine QA of Linac, proton systems, CT simulators, and associated imaging/dosimetry equipment per AAPM/IAEA standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive QA programs and documentation to ensure consistent performance and regulatory compliance (ACR, NRC, FDA, The Joint Commission).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment or software issues in collaboration with vendors and service engineers.
  • Support brachytherapy operations, including source calibration, planning, and delivery verification.
  • Participate in radiation safety activities such as shielding design, radiation surveys, and staff training on safe practices.
  • Contribute to research, technology evaluation, and clinical implementation of new tools, workflows, and automation systems.
  • Support and mentor residents, dosimetrists, and therapists through education and hands-on training.
  • Manage and maintain treatment planning, information, and QA systems to ensure data integrity and cybersecurity.
  • Engage in quality improvement, peer review, and safety initiatives promoting clinical excellence.
  • Maintain board certification, continuing education, and familiarity with evolving AAPM guidelines and industry standards.
