Summary Provides and supports all areas involving the use of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation as related to imaging and non-imaging equipment ensuring the safety of patients/staff and compliance with regulatory requirements. Supports and works under the guidance of the Director and Board Certified -Health/Medical Physicists.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree Medical Physics (CAMPEP Accreditation or Master’s Degree Medical Physics/Health Physics or equivalent or Grandfathered as a Medical Physicist under regulations set forth by the PA DEP, MQSA and the ACR (B.S)
  • 1 year practical institutional experience as a diagnostic medical physicist and/or equivalent.
  • 1 year clinical/practical institutional experience in a medical/health physics setting.
  • 1 year practical institutional experience as a diagnostic medical physicist and/or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and/or provide acceptance testing and performance verification in accordance with manufacturer's specifications of new and existing radiological imaging equipment.
  • Provides performance and optimization expectations related to imaging physics
  • Supports, maintains and manages the frequency of compliance testing of medical imaging equipment, test equipment and phantoms.
  • Ensure that imaging equipment meets regulatory and accreditation requirements and manufacturer's standards. (i.e.PA Department of Environmental Protection, ACR, TJC or equivalent)
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of the quality management program for all imaging equipment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot image quality issues.
  • Support continuous improvement in the network's radiation safety program.
  • Supports the Radiation Safety Officer and the Radiation Safety Office.
  • Participates in patient dose monitoring programs for ionizing radiation.
  • Monitor patient radiation exposure; comparison of relative to established reference levels.
  • Provides a determination of doses from a radiological and/or therapeutic procedure for patients and/or staff.
