About The Position

The Physician Assistant serves as a key medical readiness provider responsible for conducting administrative medical assessments, physical examinations, and regulatory evaluations to ensure Soldiers meet Army medical standards. The role performs comprehensive reviews of medical documentation, determines fitness for duty, processes temporary and permanent profiles, and updates medical systems of record. Responsibilities include completing Periodic Health Assessments, pre and post deployment health screenings, readiness evaluations, and referrals for specialty care or the Medical Evaluation Board as required. The Physician Assistant collaborates with commanders, Nurse Case Management teams, and the Office of the State Surgeon to support accurate medical readiness determinations, deployment eligibility assessments, and retention standards in accordance with AR 40 501, AR 40 502, DODI 1332.18, and other governing regulations. Additional duties include supporting Soldier Readiness Processing (SRP), Medical Readiness Events (MRE), reviewing positive drug test results as the Medical Review Officer, and conducting immunization missions. The position requires proficiency in multiple medical readiness and documentation systems (e.g., MHS GENESIS, MODS/MRP, MEDCHART/eMMPS, HRR, AHLTA, IDES, and others) and maintaining all necessary system access and required training. The PA must ensure accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and timely reporting to leadership to maintain and enhance overall Soldier medical readiness.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a nationally accredited/certified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Passed the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
  • Hold a current NC state license in their field
  • Maintain a minimum of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain credentialing and privileging through the National Guard's Centralized Credentialing and Privileging Preparation Board
  • Possess a valid, unrestricted license in NC to practice medicine, board eligible or board certified to include maintaining continuing medical education (CME) hours
  • Experience serving as a military Physician Assistant or Provider and familiarity with Army Regulations, Procedures, and Policies is required
  • In lieu of military experience 3 years of civilian experience will be considered
