About The Position

Physician position is assigned to the Comprehensive Health Section with duties at one or more designated institutions in the Eastern Region.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of general, preventive medicine and of the techniques involved.

Responsibilities

  • Provides normal primary care services including acute and chronic medical care, preventive health services and health education to the offenders.
  • Provides medical care to all offender patients assigned to this facility.
  • Evaluation and treatment of a variety of medical conditions within the purview of internal medicine.
  • Performing minor office based surgical procedures and refers complicated cases to specialists.
  • Holds sick call for offenders, performs history and physical exams, attends emergency medical situations, holds chronic disease clinics, prescribes medications, conducts physical examinations, follow-up histories, records progress notes, utilizes HERO to maintain medical records of all patients seen and/or treated.
  • Coordinates and cooperates with nursing services in rendering appropriate health care.
