About The Position

The Corrections Medical Physician at Baltimore Juvenile Justice Centre, will primarily be responsible for being the lead physician at one of our correctional institutions, with duties such as managing and evaluating the medical program activities based on the company goals, objectives, and philosophy according to industry standards and contractual obligations. The Medical Physician will also function as liaison between correctional officials, public agencies, and the company as part of this role. The Medical Physician collaborates with the Health Services Administrator to ensure effective inmate patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes, while maintaining the established guidelines. 20 hours a week

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of a U.S.-based residency program.
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of the assigned facility.
  • Active and unrestricted prescriptive authority with DEA and Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) registrations.
  • Minimum of two years of public health experience.
  • Strong critical thinking, clinical assessment, and decision-making skills.
  • Assertive, empathetic, and objective approach to patient care.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Ability to command respect and confidence of both inmates and staff.
  • Active CPR certification.
  • Ability to pass all required health screenings and security clearances.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Provide 24-hour on-call coverage for nursing staff and detainee/inmate care.

  • Previous correctional healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents routine physical examinations on inmate patients referred by the nursing/professional staff of the assigned correctional facility consistent with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) standards of care, NJ 10-A, American Correctional Association (ACA) and Performance Based National Detention Standards (PBNDS) as appropriate.
  • Supervises the Medical Unit in facilitating health care in the detention facility.
  • Provides treatment and orders studies, tests and ancillary services required consistent with the provision of basic health care services.
  • Conducts sick call by evaluating patient condition, determining restrictions of patient activities based on findings, and excusing patients from work or other activities or recommending limitations on activities.
  • Administers treatments and prescribes medications and other treatments to treat illnesses and health problems as allowed by state regulations and under the guidelines of the approved CFG formulary.
  • Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
  • Promotes a therapeutic environment to ensure inmates are treated in a professional, ethical and tactful manner.
  • Supervises the development of and application of policies, procedures, and protocols in the care of detainees / inmates.
  • Designate the level of care to be performed and the necessary equipment needed.
  • Perform and document routine and sick-call examinations according to NCCHC, ACA, PBNDS, NJ 10-A, and CFG Health Systems standards.
  • Supervise and manage the Medical Unit to ensure effective healthcare delivery.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies, laboratory tests, and ancillary services as needed.
  • Provide treatments, prescribe medications, and manage health conditions within state regulations and approved formulary guidelines.
  • Document all patient care accurately, thoroughly, and timely.
  • Promote a therapeutic, professional, and ethical environment for inmates.
  • Develop, implement, and supervise policies, procedures, and protocols for inmate healthcare.
  • Determine appropriate levels of care and required medical equipment.
  • Collaborate with correctional staff, healthcare providers, and administrative leadership to ensure continuity of care and compliance with standards.
