About The Position

The Urologist is expected to perform all services required in the practice of Urology in the context of the VA system and his/her clinical privileges; and provide appropriate documentation in the electronic record. Duties and responsibilities included but are not limited to: Responsibilities include being able to admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat (surgically or medically) and provide consultation for illnesses and injuries of the reproductive and genitourinary system and their contiguous structures. Responsible for providing the patient with risks, benefits and alternative treatments and securing the informed consent of the patient/family needed before conducting invasive procedures. Evaluates the patient to assess any changes in the physical status, lab values and vital signs of the patient prior to surgery. Appropriate notes are written in the patient's medical records, times, dates, and signed. Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations and pre-operative patient and Operating Room evaluations. Participates in various hospital committees, department and hospital in-service programs and acquire CME's as required. Work effectively with patients, families, co-workers, and other health care professionals treating them with respect and dignity. Familiar with and adheres to the Medical Staff Bylaws of this facility. Complies with information security policy and procedures. The Urologists provide patient care which is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient. The Urologist must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The Urologist must demonstrate the knowledge of the changes associated with aging and possess the ability to provide care based upon age-related factors as specified on the competence assessment checklist. Urologists perform minor and major surgical procedures. They are expected to use the best available procedures and perform them at or above national statistical levels. Responsible for regular postoperative follow-up, patient teaching and wound care upon discharge orders in the chart in a timely manner. Work Schedule: 7:30-16:00 Monday-Friday however, subject to change, depending on the needs of the service/medical center. On-call responsibilities as required.
