About The Position

Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center- Shreveport is seeking candidates for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor or Professor level to serve in the Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Emergency General Surgery as part of our Department of Surgery, Chaired by R. Keith White, MD with Trauma Medical Director Brett Chapman, MD. Candidates must be fellowship trained and BE/BC in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. The Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Emergency General Surgery works in a tertiary care hospital serving an urban and rural population of approximately 2.5 million, encompassing 25,000 square miles in Louisiana, East Texas, and Southwestern Arkansas. The division consists of 6 faculty and 4 APPs, each with a high volume of clinic and surgical patients; large referral base Level I adult and level II pediatric trauma center – ACS verified 3,400 annual traumas. Expectations are to cover full scope of trauma care with a strong network of primary care and specialty support on staff. This is an academic practice involving patient care, resident and medical student education, and clinical and/or basic science research. Publishing is highly encouraged. The position also participates in Surgical Critical Care fellowship education - 2 fellows per year. Our surgeons hold academic appointments at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport and are expected to participate as teaching faculty for medical students and residents from multiple departments. The surgeon who joins this team must be prepared for a very busy practice in an urban environment with high acuity, 20% – 30% rates of penetrating trauma.

Requirements

  • Fellowship trained in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
  • Board Eligible/Board Certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
