The Surgical Oncologist will provide surgery for solid tumors including soft tissue, melanoma, endocrine, and breast (exclude hepatobiliary). The surgical oncologist will be responsible for providing medical, surgical, and postoperative management of these patients and will work in collaboration with other medical specialties to assess and manage patients following established standards and practices. Work schedule: Physician will work 40 hours per week; this will be a blend of hospital rounding, procedure block time, scheduled clinic visits and Interdisciplinary clinic including charting of patient care, attending multidisciplinary General and Breast Tumor Conferences, recognizing that the minimum requirement may fluctuate up and down based on direct patient care. Call expectation: Physician will participate in after-hours practice call for their patients. Work location: Physician will work out of the Bend and Redmond hospitals and clinics.

  • Examines, diagnoses, and provides surgical care of patients with solid tumors.
  • Performs patient examinations, obtains and records pertinent medical history, subjective, and objective findings.
  • Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Interprets and integrates data to determine diagnosis, and therapeutic plan.
  • Administers and prescribes medications in compliance with state law and practice guidelines.
  • Orders and performs appropriate medical and surgical procedures in accordance with State law and practice guidelines.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatments.
  • Educates patients regarding health, illness prevention, and healing.
  • Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, documenting clearly and concisely.
  • Triages patient telephone calls, providing consultation as needed.
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, patients, physicians, and administration.
  • Maintains quality of clinical practice by selecting appropriate avenues for professional growth.
  • Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete all necessary tasks in compliance with health system policies and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and accurate billing.
  • Participate in SCHS physicians meetings and assist in policy formation for SCHS and Physicians practice.
  • Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular CME activity.
  • Keep all licenses and appropriate certifications current and unrestricted.
  • Maintain active privileges at St. Charles Health System hospitals sufficient to permit performance of job duties.
  • Graduation from an accredited medical school.
  • Successful completion of an accredited residency program in General Surgery.
  • Successful completion of a Fellowship Program in Surgical Oncology.
  • Board certified in General Surgery with added certification in Surgical Oncology.
  • Valid drivers license and the ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.
  • Maintain unrestricted DEA number.
  • Maintain unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare / Medicaid, or other federal or state governmental health care programs.
  • Completion of Fellowship in Surgical Oncology.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population.
  • Strong team working and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.
