The position is for a Physician in Saint Ignace, MI, under the Sault Tribe Health Division. The role involves providing routine and diagnostic medical examinations and treatment, as well as a wide range of medical and health services including patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of care effectiveness. The physician will also refer patients to specialty care as needed and maintain competency in providing broad-based care within their scope of services. The position requires adherence to privacy regulations and providing direction to personnel assisting in patient care.

  • Provides routine & diagnostic medical examinations and treatment.
  • Provides a wide range of medical and health services including assessment of patients, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of care and modifies treatment as necessary.
  • Refers patients to specialty care as indicated.
  • Maintains competency and renders broad-based care within their scope of services.
  • Provides direction and assistance to personnel assisting in the care of patients.
  • Follows privacy act guidelines as established by HIPAA & other privacy regulations.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Degree required.
  • Professional Certification required; prefer Family Practice Certification but will consider Pediatrics or Internal Medicine Certification.
  • License to practice as a Physician (MD or DO) in the State of Michigan or ability to obtain by date of hire required.
  • Must have no previous suspension or revocation of license.
  • DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) License or ability to obtain within six weeks of hire required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) or CPR Pro (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Pro) Certification or ability to obtain by date of hire required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Certification preferred.
  • Must undergo and successfully pass a background check.
  • Must maintain a good moral character standing.
  • Must complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
  • Sufficient knowledge to provide primary medical care within scope of practice required.
  • Knowledge of outpatient medical procedures as educated and approved through clinical privileging process preferred.
  • Previous experience documenting in electronic records preferred.
  • Working knowledge of medical best practices preferred.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must maintain confidentiality.
  • Native American preferred.
  • Family Practice Certification.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Certification.
  • Knowledge of outpatient medical procedures such as colposcopies, IUD insertions, trigger point injections, OMT, acupuncture.
  • Previous experience documenting in electronic records.
  • Working knowledge of medical best practices.
