The Physician Specialist provides specialized medical care and expertise within a department, focusing on delivering high-quality healthcare services to a specific population or group. This position involves diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with complex medical conditions, as well as providing consultation, guidance, and education to other healthcare professionals. The Physician Specialist will work within a multidisciplinary healthcare team and may participate in public health initiatives, policy development, and health-related research.

Requirements

  • Expertise in diagnosing and treating medical conditions within the specialized field, including the ability to assess patient symptoms, interpret test results, and develop effective treatment plans.
  • Proficiency in performing specialized medical procedures or treatments, ensuring the highest standards of care and safety.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex medical concepts to patients, healthcare providers, and non-medical stakeholders in an understandable manner.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to assess complex medical cases, interpret data, and determine the most effective course of action.
  • Ability to make sound, evidence-based decisions under pressure, particularly in high-stakes or emergency situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers to ensure patient-centered care.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to supervise, mentor, and guide junior healthcare staff and other professionals.
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school, plus three (3) years of professional experience in a clinical or specialized setting
  • Must hold an active and unrestricted physician license issued by the Arkansas State Medical Board.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized medical care for patients, diagnosing and treating complex or chronic medical conditions in accordance with state healthcare guidelines.
  • Perform medical examinations, interpret diagnostic tests, and develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs.
  • Offer consultations to patients, healthcare providers, and state agencies regarding specialized medical issues.
  • Provide follow-up care, monitor patient progress, and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans based on evolving conditions.
  • Perform or supervise specialized medical procedures or treatments within the area of expertise.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, social workers, and specialists, to provide comprehensive care to patients.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and confidential patient records in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Document medical procedures, treatments, and patient outcomes thoroughly, ensuring compliance with healthcare documentation standards.
  • Educate patients on their health conditions, treatment options, and preventive care.
