About The Position

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is searching for a Gynecologic Oncologist Physician Scientist to join the thriving Division of Gynecologic Oncology with a team of nine faculty physicians, two PhD research faculty, and six advanced practice providers. Depending upon research scope, the candidate may also have a secondary appointment in the Division of Reproductive Sciences which has seven PhD faculty focused on research in endocrinology, immunology, embryology and reproductive health. The candidate is also given membership to the NCI-designated University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center and will have access to its many shared resources. The position is preferred to be at the level of Associate Professor or Professor based on candidate qualifications. The position will require approximately 80% of the applicant's time devoted to a new and unique research platform in gynecologic cancers and approximately 20% of their professional effort will be devoted to patient care including outpatient clinics, surgical procedures and participation in the on-call system. Leadership, management and operational skills and knowledge associated with research infrastructure in a university setting is necessary. Additional responsibilities may include teaching fellows, resident physicians, graduate students and medical students. Other opportunities to assume leadership roles are dependent upon the interests, experience and performance of the successful candidate as well as the needs of the department and division. The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology began its academic mission of training excellent women's health physicians in 1929. Since then, hundreds of distinguished graduates have pursued successful careers as general ob-gyns, cancer specialists, surgeons, experts in high-risk pregnancy conditions, women's health research faculty, and more. We also have a unique history of training multiple researchers with PhD degrees within our department. UW-Madison- trained physicians and researchers work across the world as committed partners in women's health. The UW Department of Ob-Gyn plays a pivotal role in advancing women's health through our tireless efforts in clinical excellence, education, discovery, and advocacy. The incumbent will be expected to expand an already established foundational and/or translational research program to complement the department's strength in the areas of gynecologic cancer and cancer prevention. The successful candidate will be expected to work with colleagues and programs both inside and outside the Dept of Ob/Gyn and to secure extramural funds to maintain a robust research program. The incumbent will be expected to mentor graduate students and postdoctoral (MD and or PhD) Fellows. The incumbent may also share responsibility to teach graduate level courses in fields related to cancer biology, endocrinology, and reproductive physiology, dependent on interest and expertise. The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the faculty rank. Grow their already established clinical and/or translational research program to complement the department's strength in gynecologic cancer research. Develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies against the major malignant pathologies of the female reproductive tract. Work with colleagues and programs both inside and outside the Dept of Ob/Gyn to secure extramural funds to maintain a robust research program. Mentor graduate students and postdoctoral (MD and or PhD) Fellows. Participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the faculty rank. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years. Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles; Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist. Requirements

  • Minimum three years' experience as a post-doctoral fellow/researcher working in the field of biomolecular physiology, biochemistry, immunology, bioinformatics, or related field.
  • Firsthand grant application experience and a strong publication record, appropriate to stage of career.
  • Completion of a four-year approved/accredited residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Completion of three- or four-year approved/accredited fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology.
  • Laparoscopic and robotic gynecologic oncology experience.
  • Eligible for Wisconsin medical license.
  • Board certified or eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Board certified or eligible in Gynecologic Oncology.
  • MD or DO Specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology.

Nice To Haves

  • More than 3 years of experience at the post-doctoral level; training in didactic education.
  • Experience in developing an independent research project.
  • Experience researching gynecologic malignancies.
  • Experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Experience in gaining external NIH funding.
  • Completion of at least 3 years or equivalent of biomedical cancer research.
  • Independent research funding preferred.
  • Completion of at least 3 years of independent clinical practice.
  • Candidates for Associate Professor (Tenure) or Professor (Tenure) must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the Tenure track.
  • PhD Degree in biological or health sciences or closely related field.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.
  • An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Expand an already established foundational and/or translational research program to complement the department's strength in the areas of gynecologic cancer and cancer prevention.
