About The Position

The incumbent physician is expected to provide comprehensive patient care in the form of consultative inpatient and outpatient Rheumatology patient care at the Charles George VA Medical Center. Recruitment/Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized for Highly Qualified Applicants. This is an Open-Continuous announcement that will remain open until the position is filled. Requirements

  • United States Citizenship.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice To Haves

  • Current BLS required; ACLS desirable.
  • Experience in a VA medical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/collates results to coordinate patient care.
  • Communicates and documents with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care.
  • Performs procedural skills including arthrocentesis, venti puncture, and soft tissue injections & aspirations.
  • Provides consultative input to outpatient and inpatient care.
  • Collaborates with midlevel providers and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation.
  • Performs the administrative components of patient care management.
  • Participates in educational programs for the section personnel as well as the medical staff.
  • Monitors the quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care at both the Section and facility level.
  • Participates in miscellaneous activities of the Medical Service, including special projects.
  • Demonstrates ethical conduct and serves as a positive role model.
  • Participates in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
  • Attends Medicine Service monthly staff meetings and COS quarterly meetings.
  • Completes medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff.
  • Participates in Medical Staff committee assignments.
  • Participates in and attends CME activities and VA continuing educational activities.
  • Provides clinical supervision over the Rheumatology RN clinic.
