About The Position

The Pulmonary Critical Care Physician (inpatient, outpatient, hybrid, full time, part time and/or relief) is accountable for providing exceptional care to Cone Health patients as well as completing all clinical responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Board certification(s) with the American Board of Internal Medicine in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (board-eligible is acceptable if a current fellow or out of training less than five years).
  • Obtaining an unrestricted North Carolina medical license.
  • Unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (North Carolina) registration.
  • Obtaining Cone Health medical staff privileges.
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
  • Completed appropriate residency training (and fellowship training as required).
  • Fully licensed to practice Medicine in the state of NC.
  • Meets requirements of the Moses Cone Health System Medical Staff by-laws.
  • Current, and valid DEA registration number, with no involuntary limitations on prescriptive authority.
  • Maintains professional liability insurance as determined by the Moses Cone Health System Medical Executive Committee and Board of Trustees.

Responsibilities

  • Providing inpatient and/or outpatient-based pulmonary critical care medicine.
  • Provides multidisciplinary team coordination services to assigned areas.
  • Provides medical education to Cone Health residents and other students.
  • Participates in or contributes to an environment to advance medical research.
  • Provides independent judgment in diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Formulates treatment plans and directs the interdisciplinary team in achieving the goals of the patient care plan.
  • Participates in educational and research programs including didactic material, formal teaching conferences, clinical teaching, staff education conferences, and clinical research.
  • Participates in liaison duties with other professional staff and in development of patient referral sources.
  • Provides direct and indirect patient care to the assigned areas.
  • Provides medical supervision of the interdisciplinary team and supervises residents and medical students.
  • Participates in clinical research projects of interest.
  • Provides accurate and timely documentation and sign off of care to establish up-to-date medical records for billing purposes.
  • Models and upholds the professional standards of MCHS including the Medical Staff By-Laws, Service Excellence commitments, practice standards, physician expectations and professional image standards.
  • Participates in medical audits, quality improvement programs, investigations, peer review, and other inquiries relating to the standards of professional care.
  • Engages in continuous improvements and use of evidence-based practices working towards preeminent healthcare and service.
