About The Position

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Provides a full range of psychiatric care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems. The psychiatrist will provide consultation services to inpatients and to residents of the Community Living Center and residents of the Residential Rehabilitation programs if so needed. The incumbent will also supervise trainees, including but not limited to medical students and residents in the appropriate clinical setting. Serves a population which consists of male and female Veterans of all ages and common diagnoses include anxiety disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depression and other mood disorders, Substance Use Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and other Serious Mental Illnesses, Dementias, and mental disorder related to Traumatic Brain Injuries. Establishes professional working relationships with other clinical service providers within the medical center and outlying clinics, provide telephone and e-consult consultations as needed Cooperates with and participate in medical duties or functions related to quality of care, peer review and with other performance improvement activities as directed. Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to veterans in need of psychiatric services. Documents observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes. Reviews medical information on all referred and assigned patients. Consults with patients, their families, and other medical professionals, attorneys, and other appropriate persons to interpret clinical findings. Leads, facilitates, and coordinates treatment planning and assigns persons responsible for follow up on established goals and objectives. Directs and instructs nurses, other professional support staff, attendants, and residents in the care and treatment of patients. Prescribes medications for the treatment of physical and psychological disorders within approved clinical privileges. Provides consultation services to other disciplines within Mental Health across service lines and the VISN. Provides formal supervision for Nurse Practitioners with respects to DEA requirements. Serves as Psychiatrist Officer of the Day for on-call duties during non-administrative hours, weekend, and holidays as assigned.
