About The Position

The Mental Health Service at the Amarillo Veterans Affairs Health Care System is currently seeking a full-time Psychiatrist for the Lubbock VA Clinic - Lubbock - Texas. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).

Requirements

  • United States Citizenship.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice To Haves

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
  • Experience in working with Veteran clinical population.
  • Experience with PTSD, dual diagnoses, and clinical proficiencies in suicide risk assessment.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary mental/behavioral health care coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, treat, provide consultation and perform History and Physical examinations to adult patients presenting with mental, behavioral, addictive or emotional disorders.
  • Utilize all forms of psychological and social treatment including medications.
  • Provide consultation with physicians in other fields regarding mental, behavioral or emotional disorders.
  • Perform pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, family therapy, behavior modification, and emergency psychiatry.
  • Order diagnostic laboratory tests and prescribe medications.
  • Complete Compensation and Pension evaluation certification prior to performing Comp and Pen examinations.
