About The Position

Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care have an immediate opening for a Physician PRN. Location: Colorado Springs, CO Status: PRN Schedule:Varies, includes hospice patient inpatient care center rounding, some weekends Hourly Pay Range: $103.43 - $121.53 Supplemental Pay: Based on position, schedule and/or availability: Overtime Mileage and Expense Reimbursement: Sixty-two and a half cents per mile – one of the highest in the industry! The Physician guides, directs, and is a care consultant to the Outpatient, Inpatient and Palliative departments’ staff, the patient’s attending physician and other providers to assure standards, quality, and excellence of care is provided. Fosters and maintains external relationships between the hospice & palliative care programs and other professionals and organizations engaged in health care services.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Graduate from approved school of medicine.
  • Minimum Experience: Three years’ experience as practicing physician in hospice, internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, oncology or related field.
  • Required License: Current Colorado Physician License to practice medicine.
  • Board certified (or board eligible) in Internal Medicine or Family Practice or Hospice & Palliative Medicine. Colorado state driver’s license and proof of insurance. Current CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provides physician services consistent with hospice and palliative care philosophy. Consults with attending physicians and palliative care/hospice staff as requested to address goals of care, pain and symptom management for patients.
  • In absence of Medical Director, may be designated to assume responsibility for the medical component of the patient care program.
  • Reviews clinical information upon patient referral to document disease diagnosis, prognosis, therapeutic regiment and assessment of patient’s health.
  • Participates at Inter-Disciplinary Group/Team (IDG or IDT) patient care meetings. Utilization review of patient care as necessary.
  • Determines clinical appropriateness of hospice and/or palliative admissions, transfers from palliative care to hospice, and discharges of hospice or palliative patients as needed.
  • Assists the President with program philosophy and service model for hospice & palliative care.
  • Follows hospice program policy when providing supervision for cross coverage of physician service.
  • Serves as liaison with attending physicians, local hospitals, medical schools and teaching hospitals. Provides support to attending and consulting physicians, and oversees patient medical services. If the attending physician is not available, the physician is responsible for meeting the medical needs of a hospice patient.
  • Conducts home, Inpatient, or facility visits to hospice & palliative patients, as needed.
  • Participates in planning, developing and evaluating the hospice & palliative care department services within the agency as a whole, including but not limited to, internal and external committees and input into development of policy and procedures.
  • Remains available for rotating schedule of on-call assignments. Phone coverage after hours and weekends for hospice and palliative consult service patients. Patient visits after hours and weekends when necessary.
